Turn Etsy Buyers Into an Email List You Own ($4,000/Month With This Free AI Prompt)
If you sell digital products on Etsy, you already know the good part: Etsy can put your products in front of buyers you might never reach on your own.
But here is the trap. You make the sale, Etsy keeps the customer, and that buyer may never remember your shop name again.
They search, scroll past a wall of similar products, pick one, buy it, and move on. That is not a business you own. That is a one-time transaction on rented land.
The sellers who build something lasting do not stop at the Etsy sale. They use Etsy as a discovery platform, then turn those buyers into an email list they own.
In this episode, I am sharing the simple shift that helps you turn Etsy shoppers, Pinterest visitors, Instagram followers, TikTok viewers, and Facebook group members into subscribers, buyers, and repeat customers.
And I have a free AI prompt that maps the whole thing out for your exact product.
If you are still working on your first offer, read these easy digital downloads to sell now so you start with a product people can understand quickly.

Episode Description
Etsy is a smart place to test a digital product. It has buyers. It has search. It can show you quickly what people are willing to pay for.
But Etsy is not where you build the relationship. Etsy keeps the customer email. Etsy takes a percentage of every order. And if a buyer needs something similar later, they may go right back to search instead of coming back to you.
In this episode, Jillian Leslie shows how to turn Etsy shoppers and social followers into an email list you own. You will learn the math behind a 1,000-person list, how to use a freebie as the bridge from marketplace to subscriber, and how to set it up in MiloTree without a website or complicated tech.
Why Etsy Sellers Need an Email List
Etsy is useful. I am not telling you to leave Etsy.
Use Etsy to test what sells. Use it to get discovered. Use it to put your digital products in front of people who are already shopping.
But do not confuse marketplace traffic with a business asset.
When someone buys from you on Etsy, you made the sale, but you did not really get the customer. You do not get to add that person to your email list automatically. You cannot cold email them. And if Etsy changes its rules, raises fees, changes search, or shows a competitor first, your access to buyers can change overnight.
Your email list is different. That is the audience you own. These are people who said, “Yes, I want to hear from you.” You can build trust, share useful tips, introduce your next product, and sell to them again and again.
This is why I call your email list the most valuable thing you can build. For a deeper breakdown, read why your email list prints money.
The Math: How 1,000 Subscribers Can Become $4,000/Month
List building sounds nice, but let us make it concrete.
Say you have 1,000 people on your email list and you email them about a $27 product.
- At a 3% conversion rate, that is 30 sales.
- 30 sales at $27 is $810.
- Add a $15 order bump that one in three buyers takes, and that is another $150.
- Add a $47 upsell that one in five buyers takes, and that is another $280.
That first entry offer is now worth about $1,240.
But the real business comes from the next step. Some buyers will be ready for a $67 product. Some will be ready later for a $197 bundle, workshop, or private help.
When you add those next-step offers, a 1,000-person list can realistically become about $4,000/month. Not from chasing more traffic. From selling the right next thing to people who already trust you.
This is the same thinking behind building a digital product stack. One product is not the whole business. It is the first step in a relationship.
Use Etsy as the Front Door, Not the Whole House
Your whole job everywhere you show up is to move the right people onto your list.
On Etsy, every order is an opening. You cannot take Etsy buyer emails and add them to your list without permission. But you can invite buyers to opt in.
Put your freebie link in your thank-you message. Add it inside your product PDF. Mention it in your shop materials where Etsy allows. Make the next step feel useful, not pushy.
For example, if you sell a printable budget planner, your freebie could be a “5-Minute Weekly Money Reset” checklist. If you sell meal planning templates, your freebie could be a “Sunday Prep Starter Plan.” If you sell homeschool printables, your freebie could be a weekly planning page or a lesson rotation template.
The freebie should naturally attract the same person who would buy your product.
If you need help thinking through what to sell first, read how to find a profitable niche with AI.
Use Social Platforms as List-Building Doors
Pinterest, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook groups can all send people to your list.
But most creators use those platforms backward. They try to sell directly from every post, or they wait for the algorithm to magically send the right buyers.
A better strategy is to use each platform as a front door.
- Your Pinterest pins point to your freebie.
- Your Instagram bio link points to your freebie.
- Your TikTok captions point people to your freebie.
- Your Facebook group answers naturally mention your free resource when it helps.
- Your YouTube description gives people the next step.
You are not trying to build a huge following before you sell. You are giving the right people a reason to join your email list now.
This is especially powerful if you are starting small. In how to sell a digital product without an audience, I explain why you do not need thousands of followers first. You need a simple path for interested people to raise their hands.
The Free AI Prompt That Builds Your List Plan
To make this easier, I built a free AI prompt that turns the product you already sell into an audience growth plan.
Here is the prompt framework:
You are my audience growth strategist. I sell digital products and I want to stop depending on marketplace traffic and build an email list I own. Turn the product I already sell into a plan that attracts the right people and gets them onto my list.
First, ask me these four questions:
- What digital product do you sell, and what problem does it solve?
- Who is it for, and what is the price?
- Where do you sell it now? Do you have an email list, and how many people are on it?
- Where do you already spend time online or enjoy creating?
Then give me an audience freebie plan with these parts: who I am really attracting, my freebie, my best two channels, the path from stranger to subscriber, and my weekly list habit.
End with: “Your single best move this week is ____,” and one sentence on why.
When you run this prompt, AI is not just giving you random product ideas. It is helping you connect the dots between what you already sell, who needs it, what freebie they would want, and where to find those people.
That is the list-building plan most Etsy sellers are missing.
Example: Printable Budget Planner
In the video, I use a printable budget planner as the example.
The AI prompt might identify the real audience as overwhelmed people who want to feel in control of their money without becoming spreadsheet experts.
The freebie might be a weekly budget reset checklist or a “find $100 this month” worksheet. The best channels might be Pinterest and short-form video. The path might be:
- Someone sees a pin about getting control of grocery spending.
- They click to get the free weekly reset checklist.
- They land on your opt-in page.
- They join your email list.
- They see a small tripwire offer for your full printable budget planner.
- Then your email sequence teaches, builds trust, and introduces the next paid product.
This is how a simple Etsy product becomes the beginning of a real customer journey.

How to Set This Up Without a Website
This is where MiloTree comes in.
Inside MiloTree, you can upload your freebie, and MiloTree will deliver it automatically to your new subscriber. You get an opt-in page with AI-generated copy built to convert, a simple link to share, and a way to collect names and email addresses without building a website.
That one link can go in your Etsy thank-you message, inside your digital product, in your Instagram bio, in your Pinterest pins, in your YouTube descriptions, and anywhere else you show up.
And when you are ready to sell, each product in MiloTree gets its own sales page, checkout, and delivery. You can add order bumps, upsells, coupons, and tripwires, which are the exact levers in the $4,000/month math above.

Free vs. Paid MiloTree: Where to Start
MiloTree is free to start. No credit card is needed. Your first freebie and your first product are free forever, so you can test your list-building idea without taking on another monthly bill.
That is the right move if you are just getting your first freebie live or testing your first product.
When you are ready to grow for real, the paid Grow plan gives you unlimited products, freebies, funnels, order bumps, upsells, coupons, and email integrations for $25/month when billed annually. MiloTree takes 0% of your sales. You only pay the standard credit card processing fees.
This is the difference between testing one idea and building the full system.
