How to Create an Ebook and Sell It: 4 Steps, No Website

The word “ebook” is the problem. You hear it and picture 200 pages, six months of writing, and a professional author.

Forget that. An ebook people will pay for can be 20 useful pages that solve one frustrating problem for one specific person. The hard part isn’t writing. It’s choosing a problem someone will pay you to solve.

Short answer: To create an ebook and sell it, (1) find a specific problem people already want solved, (2) plan only what the buyer needs, (3) write it with AI prompts plus your own stories, then export it as a PDF, and (4) upload it to a platform that creates the sales page, checkout, and delivery. On MiloTree’s free plan you can do this with no website and no upfront cost; MiloTree keeps 5% of each sale. A focused 20-page guide is enough.

In the video, I start with no idea and end with a PDF, a sales page, a checkout link, and a link-in-bio storefront. Four steps: find it, plan it, write it, sell it.

Step 1: Find a problem people will pay to solve

Most people start by asking, “What am I good at?” That reveals a topic. It doesn’t reveal what someone would pay for.

People buy because they want a frustrating problem fixed or a specific result reached. So start with the problem.

Example: I told MiloTree’s AI Product Finder that I know about raising backyard chickens, I help first-time flock owners, and I want to create a digital download. It gave me three ideas, each with a suggested price and build time.

It didn’t suggest “The Complete Guide to Backyard Chickens.” That’s a subject. It suggested “My First 30 Days With Chickens”: what a first-time owner needs during those first weeks and the mistakes to avoid. That’s a product promise.

Do a 2-minute reality check. Search the problem on Google. If you find people asking about it in their own words (“How do I get started with chickens?” “What do the first 30 days look like?”), the problem is real.

Step 2: Plan only what the buyer needs

A good plan keeps the ebook short. In MiloTree, the AI Product Roadmap lays out:

  • what the buyer needs to know
  • what to leave out
  • what order it should go in
  • which examples or checklists will help them get the result

It also gives you an AI prompt for each section, plus “Make it yours” prompts that pull in your stories, mistakes, opinions, and examples. That’s how the finished ebook sounds like you, not like generic AI.

Step 3: Write it with AI, then make it yours

An honest note, because this is where tools oversell: no single button writes a brilliant ebook. MiloTree gives you the roadmap and prompts; you draft in Claude or ChatGPT.

  1. Paste one prompt at a time into Claude or ChatGPT.
  2. Review each draft. Cut anything the buyer doesn’t need.
  3. Answer the “Make it yours” questions with something only you know. For the chicken ebook, that was a mistake I made with my first coop.
  4. Put it in a Google Doc and export it as a PDF.

Does it need to be beautiful? No. It needs to be clear, readable, and useful. Don’t spend three days choosing a Canva template for a product nobody has tried to buy yet.

Step 4: Sell your ebook without a website

  1. Upload the PDF to your product in MiloTree. Like any digital download, MiloTree delivers it automatically to every buyer.
  2. Open your sales page. MiloTree writes it from your product details. Sharpen the headline, edit the benefit bullets, and add one or two images.
  3. Share your link. Every product gets its own sales page, checkout, and link you can post anywhere.
  4. Add it to your free link-in-bio storefront, next to your social accounts, freebies, and other products.

What it costs: MiloTree’s Free plan is $0 to launch. You can sell 3 products and offer 3 freebies, and MiloTree keeps 5% of each sale. That’s enough to launch, make real sales, and learn what people want before paying for more software. Stripe’s standard processing fee applies.

Your ebook is the front door, not the whole house

Your first ebook doesn’t have to carry your whole income. It has two jobs: solve the problem it promises, and turn a follower into a buyer.

An email subscriber has shown interest. A customer has shown intent. Once someone buys, your next offer is easier to see. For the chicken ebook, it could be a feeding tracker, a predator-proofing workshop, a 1:1 coop-planning call, or a membership for new chicken owners. Each next offer helps the same person solve the next problem.

Example: one $47 guide, about $7,000 a month. Gabriella, a MiloTree creator, spent 12 years in corporate recruiting and created a $47 resume guide. Almost half her buyers also add a $27 cover letter pack, and about 15% join her membership. Together, those connected offers bring in about $7,000 a month.

Once you’re making sales, MiloTree’s Grow plan ($25/month billed annually, or $37 monthly) adds order bumps and upsells, so each buyer can add the next logical product at checkout or on the thank-you page. Grow also drops MiloTree’s fee to 0%. Learn how the next offer works in the $27 product isn’t the business.

Create an ebook and sell it: FAQ

How long should an ebook be?

As long as it takes to solve the problem, and no longer. A focused 20-page guide that fixes one problem sells better than a 200-page book about a whole subject.

Can I write an ebook with AI?

Yes, but use AI for the draft and yourself for the substance. MiloTree’s AI Product Roadmap gives you prompts for each section in Claude or ChatGPT, plus “Make it yours” prompts for your stories, mistakes, and examples. That’s what makes buyers trust it.

How do I create an ebook for free?

Draft it in Claude or ChatGPT (both have free versions), format it in Google Docs, and export a PDF. Sell it on MiloTree’s Free plan, which costs $0 upfront. MiloTree keeps 5% of each sale, plus Stripe’s processing fee.

What format should my ebook be?

A PDF works for most buyers and opens on any device. MiloTree also accepts EPUB and other common ebook formats, and delivers the file automatically after purchase.

Do I need a website to sell an ebook?

No. MiloTree gives your ebook its own sales page, checkout, and link, plus a free link-in-bio storefront. Share the link on social media, in emails, or under your videos.

How much should I charge for an ebook?

Price it by the problem it solves, not the page count. The example in this post is a $47 resume guide. Small, specific guides often sell for about $17 to $47.
